The Guild Wars 2 App

Greetings, fellow Guild Wars fans!

Since we just wrapped up another update for the Guild Wars Handbook (and hit 10,000+ downloads!), we think it’s a great time to bring you more details about the Guild Wars 2 Handbook. We have begun preliminary work on the Guild Wars 2 Handbook and hope to bring a more animated and colorful experience for this new addition to the Guild Wars Handbook series.

The developers at Chris² are on a semi-tight schedule over the 2012 summer as we trudge through our first college summer school experience. Progress is still possible (as you will notice with the v 1.7 Guild Wars Handbook update), so we expect to establish a great foundation for the Guild Wars 2 Handbook over the summer.

Chris² is aiming to make the Guild Wars 2 Handbook follow the ‘free-with-ads’ and ‘paid ad-free’ model for offering our app in the Android market. Our free version with advertisements will not deluge your screen with ads at every possible turn, but it will certainly make its presence known at more points than just the main menu. You can show your support by purchasing our advertisement-free version of the Guild Wars 2 Handbook app, which we will appreciate to no end.

We have no expected release date for Guild Wars 2 Handbook at this time, but we will try to follow after the official release of Guild Wars 2 as closely as possible (enabling the collection of accurate information/data and formation of guides).

By the way, here is a sample image of the ArenaNet/NCSoft disclaimer we have in place for the Guild Wars 2 Handbook, hopefully giving you an idea of the theme we may implement throughout the app (however, nothing is final):

Guild Wars Handbook – Update (v 1.6)

We have released an update for Guild Wars Handbook, making it version 1.6.

Here are the notable changes/removals, along with the change log:

-=Title Tracker (Beta)=-

Guild Wars Handbook includes an offline title tracker page (some bug fixes and additional functionality will be added). You can store your progress and retrieve it while playing the game, updating it as you conquer/acquire/etc.

*About the Lore Guide*
When we planned to include the Lore section of the Guild Wars Handbook, we underestimated the sheer quantity of information/work to deal with to produce a working, user-friendly guide for the Guild Wars universe. We decided to drop the Lore Guide, and replace it with another function that we hope current Guild Wars fans will enjoy. We know the Title Tracker page will not be as immensely useful as a Lore guide, but we saw more negatives when considering implementing Lore (incredibly time-consuming, offline data for every item, NPC, and area map would be particularly large, etc.). At any rate, we are gathering information for creating the Guild Wars 2 Handbook, which we trust you will find more useful as we near the Guild Wars 2 release (expected 2012? We hope so.)

Change Log:

-=Version 1.6=-
Added:
+ Offline Title Tracker page.

Changed:
* Elementalist, Mesmer, Ritualist (etc.) skill updates.

Removed:
-Lore guide (read app description for more details).

We do apologize for not including Lore for the Guild Wars Handbook. It quickly turned into a massive undertaking that we (as college students) do not have much time for. We will begin work on the Guild Wars 2 Handbook, as time allows.

Grocery Price Comparator Update – v1.2

Grocery Price Comparator has been updated to version 1.2, with new features and gizmos, virtually all from one user’s request (thank you for the suggestions!). We appreciate interest in Grocery Price Comparator, and want to make it more useful to you with every update. The new features include:

  • Added an option to switch to a more condensed entry mode (single line, for inputs like “$3.21 4 OZ”).
  • Added the ability to convert measurements.
  • Added a simple settings menu to toggle saving and start-up preferences.
  • Changed the button color to blue.
  • Updated the tips information to cover the new features.

Hope you guys enjoy the new features.

Guild Wars Handbook – Progress Update

Search

That is right, we have added a search function into the app. This is a dynamic search, where the search results will be updated for every character past the third. Clicking on it will bring you right to the unique skill view in all of its glory.  It is not a very pretty search box yet, but it will serve its’ purpose.

Progression Table

It has been awhile since an update was released for the Guild Wars Handbook, however we are currently working on the next version of the app.  So far we have a working progression table for all normal attribute skills  (e.g. Healing Prayers, Tactics, Mysticism, etc).   This is a great feature we are sure everyone will enjoy.

Threads

THREADS!  The app is now multi-threaded.  This is a great change for everyone, from single to multi-core processors.  For single processor devices, this allows for background calculations to occur without halting the User Interface completely to do the calculations.  For multi-core processor devices, you get the above bonus and the satisfaction knowing that your extra cores are being utilized.  We will continue to add new threads to do execute code in the background when possible.  Basically, performance in the app has increased.

Lore

A bit of work has been made into Lore, while it will most likely not be in a update anytime soon, but work is being made to complete it.  Lore will take time to code, but we have some very nice ideas for it.  The Lore section will cover six main topics in Guild War, each with their own subsections.  Game Basics, Items, Weapons, Armor, Player Vs. Environment, and Player Vs. Player.  More details on the Lore section will be coming soon.

Also, a small side note, a lot of code has been cleaned up.  There is still more code to optimize and make re-useable, this will be an on-going process.

Grocery Price Comparator

App Description: Grocery Price Comparator is a comparison tool to find out which item(s) of a given type of product would be the cheapest by calculating the price per quantity of the product. If your grocery store doesn’t have a price per quantity (with some measurable quantity, like fluid ounces), you can use this application to store prices with optional labels to compare products and quickly calculate the best deal. Convert products with pesky measurement differences (gallons vs. quarts, grams vs. ounces, etc.) to find out your best option for saving money.

Application Category: Finance

Chris² Tippin’

App Description: Chris² Tippin’ is a purposefully simplified tip calculator app. It helps you calculate the amount of tip you will pay with a percentage of your choosing. The designers had simplicity and ease-of-use in mind when creating this app, planning for a relatively small file size and a less bug-prone environment. Please contact us if any bugs/crashes occur while using this app.

Current version: 1.0

Application Category: Finance

Recent Changes: Launched.

MercenaryIII: One of my first ventures into Android application development, Chris² Tippin’ is the brother app of Tippin’ (developed by Chris Capps). These two apps essentially do the same thing, calculate the amount of tip for a visit to a restaurant.

Guild Wars Handbook – v1.4

We have just pushed out version 1.4 of the popular Guild Wars Handbook application for Android.  This updates brings a lot of changes, both noticeable and unnoticeable from a user perspective.  We have increased performance of the app and have even better handling of orientation changes.  Also, we have added in all of the PvE only skills such as Norn, Asuran, Vanguard, and Deldrimor.  The Eye of The North PvE skills are listed under “General” in the profession list as these skills are not restricted to just Warrior or Monk, but available to all professions.  We have redesigned the listing of the skills, the new list now displays more information about the skill (energy cost, adrenaline cost, recharge time, etc).  A few skill icon mismatches were corrected for Necromancer and Ritualist skills.  With the unique skill view, we have taken care of any issue where the bottom left corner image could make the skill description hard to see.  The builds section of the app now mirrors the unique skill view more closely with colored boxed information.  Sorting has now been corrected, there were some issues with it that were hard to notice until we had the energy cost and recharge time of the skills in the skill list.

For stuff that is not seen easily by the user, we have begun to clean up our code, which will not only increase performance, but also lower the overall package size (just by a little).

Site moved!

Welcome to the new website for Chris²!

We have officially moved from our old site, and our new site is all about keeping you up to date on the progress and availability of our Android apps as we create and update them. Our most recent and largest app by far, Guild Wars Handbook, has been slowed by our college scheduling. We will be releasing updates as usual, but in a slightly different fashion. Smaller, incremental updates are our new methodology during this engagement with college classes and activities. For example, as far as the Guild Wars Handbook goes, we are working on locations of bosses for each elite skill, updating the app with a fully completed listing of bosses for a specific profession with each update.

All in all, we at Chris² want you to know that we are not stopping progress on our apps because of college, just merely slowing down a bit.
